SASKATOON BRIDGE CLUB
NEWSLETTER
June 2004
_________________________________________________________
It is almost a year since the three clubs amalgamated into one club. Nothing much has changed as far as games and card fees but we now have only one Executive taking care of the operation of the club. The new Executive is still feeling its way dealing with the proposed expansion, club policies and combining the activities of the three clubs but it has been a successful year with many things accomplished.
SOME OF THE MORE SIGNIFICANT ACHIEVEMENTS:
1. The adoption of a ZERO TOLERANCE POLICY - the purpose of which is to create a more pleasant atmosphere in our club by attempting to eradicate unacceptable behavior and to make the game of bridge more enjoyable for everyone in accordance with Law 74 of the Laws of Duplicate Contract Bridge. It stresses the following regarding proper attitiude at the bridge table:
a) A player should maintain a courteous attitude at all times.
b) A player should carefully avoid remarks or actions that might cause annoyance or embarrassment to another player
c) Every player should follow correct and uniform procedure in bidding and playing.
Annoying behavior, embarrassing remarks or inappropriate conduct should be dealt with immediately by a director who has the authority to assess disciplinary and procedural penalties. This is an important issue and should be treated as such - frivolous calls should not be made.
2. The role of the Conduct and Ethics Committee has been defined.
3. A Building Committee consisting of Barry Prokop, Rand Burlingham. Doris Hasell and Lou Heuchert has been selected. The Executive has given the Committee its requirements for an expansion of the Bridge Club and the Committee selected an architect who is now working on a proposal.
4. A attractive brochure promoting the Saskatoon Bridge Club was created by Joy Treleaven.
5. The establishment of an Investment Advisory Committee consisting of Vice President (Al Robb), Bill Zerebesky and Rolf Holzkaemper whose purpose it is to consolidate and oversee the Club's investments.
