Club News for October
Hi all,
October is a very busy bridge month with plenty of special games and events going on.
This whole month is the Jane Johnson Club Appreciation month. Jane was an important leader in the ACBL's club/membership department and they want to recognize her contributions to its development.
For our loyalty to the ACBL, we are allowed one Club Appreciation Pair and Team event per sanctioned session. At our regular game price, we have the chance to earn 100% sectionally rated black points in the pair games and ALL team games award 5% gold up to 0.25 per player, and yes that includes the 199 Tuesday evening team game as well as the M/NM games!
Tuesday evening 199er October 1 is a TEAM game, Thursday afternoon is M/NM TEAMS and for a trial this year on Saturday October 5 we will have a stratified TEAM game. If enough teams show up for this Saturday evening game, we will hold it again next year. Tuesday afternoon October 8th is TEAMS, Friday October 11 are FLT TEAMS, Wed Afternoon and evening of the 16th are TEAMS and Monday Seniors October 21 are TEAMS. All these games earn gold points. You will get a fraction even if you just have one win, you don't have to place in the overalls!
The Club Appreciation Pair games are as follows: Wed Aft. Oct. 2, Wed M/NM eve Oct 9, Seniors Oct. 14, Tuesday afternoon and evening October 15, Thursday October 17 evening, the 99er game October 10 is also a Club Championship awarding free plays and certificates to all strat winners. And Friday October 18. All these games earn 100% sectionally rated black points.
Wednesday evening October 2 in the INSTANT MATCHPOINT game. It is an OPEN game, ANYONE can play in it. One pair sitting EW and one sitting NS will earn a whole gold point! This game is $7 per person. Not a lot of people come out to the evening games so now is your chance to earn gold! After the game a detailed hand record analysis booklet will be handed out illustrating how each hand should be played, bid, defended and even the lead! A great learning tool!
Thursday evening October 3 is the Canada Wide Olympia Fund Game. A detailed hand record analysis will be given out after the game. $6 per person.
On Saturday October 19 there will be a Unit Game at 1 pm, followed by the Unit 575 Annual General Meeting at about 4:30, for all those who stay after the game to attend the meeting you may enjoy free PIZZA, SALAD and ONE BEVERAGE!! On the same day is the club's Life Master celebration party. 5:30 is cocktails and 6 pm desserts will be served and presentations made to our newest Life Masters who are Carolann Murray, Shirley McGuire, Maggie Burke,
Colleen Kinahan, Barry Prokop and Terry Cook. Congratulations to all! Do come out and recognise your fellow club member's acheivements!!
October 24 Thursday evening is our Erin Berry Rookie Master game. The rookie must have under 50 points as of October 6 data base updates and yes, two rookies may play together if they wish. Free coffee and dainties. Sign up with your partner at the club and if you need a partner (over or under) let me know. A hand record analysis by a top Canadian bridge player will be given out at the end of the game. Everyone must play the standard no alert convention card. As this game is opposite the start of the Regina sectional, there won't be an open side game as most of the players like to go to the sectional anyway.
So folks, if you are coming out to any of the three special events with food, PLEASE sign up so we know how much food to order!!!
